How to Organize A Green Event

Organizing a green event means one simple underlying thing and that is to reduce waste during the entire event.  With this in mind, your objective is to be able to limit the waste from the planning stages of the exhibit by making steadfast decisions on necessities and other conference materials that you can actually do away with.  And any waste generated from the exhibit should be brought from the landfill with a recycling and composting plan in place.

Select a venue that supports your green goals.  It is important to make sure that the venue is centrally located and thus accessible to public transportation.  It would also be good to offer alternative ways to get to the venue such as secure bike parking slots or rideshare information.

Opt to serve food and drinks that are sustainable and make sure to provide proper disposal bins within the area.  If possible, get in touch with a food bank where leftovers can be donated otherwise include the scraps in the composting plan.

For marketing and exhibit materials, the tip is to market and promote the event online and try to do away with most of the printed materials such as press kits or loot bags.  Maximize on electronic communications and if needed, use recycled materials and soy based ink through local environment friendly printers.  It is ideal to have materials printed without specific dates with the end goal of reuse in the following years.  Look for alternative materials to plastic, whether it be for carry all bags or badges.  Should any large format printing be needed that cannot be reused, make sure to tie up with a recycling or reuse center.  And lastly, promote the protection of the environment by giving out thoughtful take-aways to the attendees that they can actually use and not just dispose of when they get home.
