This Chatham House 'City Series' conference will assess how the banking sector is changing in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Sessions will focus on the potential for banks to innovate in a tech-enabled industry, having already experienced upheavals to business models in response to regulatory changes. Appropriate policy approaches to traditional banks and Fintech companies will also be considered. Key questions for discussion include: - What are the implications of the Brexit vote for the banking sector? - What are the risks and practical challenges of new approaches to financial services and how can policy-makers prepare for an increasingly digital financial sector? How can consumers be protected while encouraging innovation? - How can banks secure profitability and market share while complying with regulations, adapting to a more technology-driven climate and managing continued uncertainty, especially following the UK referendum result? The Chatham House Rule To enable as open a debate as possible, this conference will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
