Lead Management for Exhibiitors
A lot of trade show managers out there would wince at the mere mention of their organization’s lead management system. Worse so when they are tasked to think of improvements to it. And since each company has a different product to sell, service to offer, varying sales cycle, a different number of sales people and marketing resources, there is no single way to handle trade show leads.
It is important to note that trade show hosting has evolved and is more complicated now than ever before due to the crunch in the economy. Many companies are focused on the payback on the investment they have made and therefore equate lost leads to lost sales opportunities. This is why it is essential to have an efficient lead management system in place.
If and when you are designated to improve trade show leads, first forget how you currently handle them. Instead, try to list down ideal lead management solutions by answering the following questions: Is there a standardized system in process? What vital data would you need to collect for sufficient trade show lead qualification? Are the leads ready to accept sales calls? Are the sales representatives ready to receive each and every lead? How fast can you get the leads to the sales representatives?
Once you are able to answer these questions, you shall be able to determine the type of lead management system that you will use onsite. You can either choose to go with a new lead management solution or focus on improving your existing one. Remember that changes do not happen overnight. As long as you know what end result you want to have, it will be easier to find improvements to your current lead management system. Therefore small improvements to your existing system can be a good start rather than wincing and cringing in one corner over the inefficiency of your current system. This can then be a very productive start of continuous efficiency enhancements.
