The Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Energy Storage Report found the UK energy sector to be unhelpfully driven by ‘cheapness’ and highlighted hydrogen as a potential solution, albeit one not without its challenges. Whilst some remain sceptical about the role hydrogen can play, leading automotive OEMs are investing in the production of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and the IEA 2015 hydrogen and fuel cell roadmap estimating a potential global market in the hundreds of billions by 2050. How realistic is hydrogen as a fuel for transport and energy storage? And where do the key opportunities lie? This timely event will bring together experts from across the industry to engage with hydrogen – it’s barriers and limits, as well as its potential to transform the energy and transport sectors.
