On behalf of the Government of Algeria, I have great pleasure in announcing the construction of a new Convention Center to host the 16th International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG 16) from 18th to 21st April 2010. Algeria enjoys a proud history with the International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas having already hosted LNG 4, in 1974 in Algiers. In 2010, LNG 16 will be conducted in Oran, Algeria’s second largest city. Oran also services the nearby LNG facilities at Arzew, allowing easy access for the conference program’s technical visits, which form an integral part of the LNG 16 event. The new Oran Convention Center has been designed to accommodate the specific needs of the LNG 16 event. Key features include a 3,000 seat auditorium, two 500 seat breakout rooms and twenty meeting rooms. The exhibition hall provides 20,000 square metres of exhibition space and there are dining facilities to accommodate 2,000+ delegates. A 300 room five star hotel is also incorporated into the project. The contract to construct the new facility has been awarded to the Spanish based OHL Group. Attendees at the previous LNG 15 will know OHL’s work via the Centre Conventions International Barcelona (CCIB) where LNG 15 was hosted. The city of Oran is enjoying a significant infrastructure boom, with the headquarters of one of Sonatrach’s branches, the Downstream Activity, having just opened and new international hotels to come on line before LNG 16. In addition, the Algerian Government is working with the LNG 16 National Organizing Committee (NOC) and Sonatrach to provide delegates with the direct flights, ground transport, event security and visa facilitation that are all an integral part of an event of this stature. Located on a headland overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the city, the Oran Convention and Exhibition Centre will be an iconic feature of our city to match the international status of LNG 16 and we look forward
