May 13 - 15, 2011
The Canadian Association of Journalists will hold its national conference in Ottawa from May 13-15.

Network with reporters, editors and other journalists from around the country as you hear from some of the best in the business and head to three days of panels, speeches and workshops.

Our workshops, under the theme “Journalism 3.0,” will help attendees better understand and adjust to transformations in the profession. Workshops will include the discussion of new tools like social media marketing, mapping, webscraping, Excel and computer assisted reporting, and, of course, tweeting

Learn these skills from those who made them their own, including the Ottawa Citizen’s Glen McGregor, CBC investigative reporter David McKie and the CBC’s Kady O’Malley, who has revolutionized Parliament Hill coverage with her online work.

That’s not all. Google will talk about mobile news. Members of Parliament will tell us what they think of our coverage. And the all-news cable channel will be under discussion as Quebecor Media’s Sun TV News launches. Other speaking topics will include health reporting, community news, the news business, advertising, national politics, and a star panel on reporting in fragile or dangerous countries.

On the evening of Saturday, May 14, the CAJ will also host its annual national awards gala.

Please set aside this weekend and plan on attending.
