Pressure to quickly and safely return – or dispose of efficiently – battle used equipment to U.S. terrain, as a result of the U.S. Military drawdown in Iraq, continues to rise. The logistical challenges this presents are enormous, and include transportation of equipment and materials back to US soil -- lifecycle decisions need to be made regarding badly damaged and obsolescent equipment, and funding must be secured for any possible upgrades. The mission is not simple: bring material assets home and return them to a state that meets the critical survivability and lethality requirements of future wars.
