On Wednesday June 6, 2012, the Vancouver Urban Forum to consider opportunities for urban reform. The Forum is produced by the Global Civic Policy Society and its Center for Fourth Wave Urban Reform. This is a reference to Three Waves of urban reform that have swept Canada since its founding in 1867. Of interest is the role of previous reforms in preventing urban densification and what might be done to remedy it. The Conference will consider ideas that could comprise a Fourth Wave of Urban Reform.

The Conference will feature a number of special guests including:

-Harvard Professor of Economics and author of “Triumph of the City” Edward Glaeser.
-Toronto-based author of “Urban Nation” Alan Broadbent.
-Columbia University Professor and former Chief Planner for Manhattan Vishaan Chakrabarti.
-University of Alberta Professor James Lightbody.
-Gil Penalosa of 8-80 Cities.
-Professor Bill Rees, developer of the Ecological Footprint Analysis.
-Professor Edouardo Behrentz of the Universidad de los Andes Bogotá.

The Vancouver Urban Forum is hosted by the Global Civic Policy Society and its Centre for Fourth Wave Urban Reform. The Founder is Sam Sullivan Former Mayor of Vancouver and current Adjunct Professor in the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia.
