Public interest in business conduct has increased significantly in recent years. This has in part been driven by profound shifts in awareness due to the availability and diffusion of information, emphasized by recent well-publicized incidences of corporate malfeasance, and has been accompanied by an evolving set of expectations, values and norms relating to responsible practice and the role of businesses as public as well as private actors. With public perceptions an ever more critical component to corporate success and maximizing shareholder value, it is critical to examine the extent to which changing expectations are reshaping corporate governance and business practice. State and private actors must also determine the most effective regulatory and economic avenues for achieving greater convergence between principles and practice in corporate social responsibility (CSR). This conference will bring together policy-makers, business leaders and industry experts to consider key questions on the responsible business agenda. The Chatham House Rule To enable as open a debate as possible, this conference will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
