Tradeshow 101 for Attendees
If you are thinking about attending conferences and trade shows, it always helps to know what you are doing at the show, beyond just preparing for it. Having the right supplies and the right tools can keep you in order, and by knowing what you are doing at the trade show, you can make the experience much easier on yourself.
First, be flexible at the trade show because times can change and you may have to update your schedule to see all the exhibits that you want to see.
When you are at the trade show, try wearing a name tag to make things more personal when you go to an exhibit. Make the name tag visible at all the booths. Literature and samples are also very popular items at the trade show. Instead of having to wander around carrying all those items, you can ask the company to mail them to you.
If you are going to a trade show as part of your company, bring your business cards with a notepad and pen so that you can jot down information quickly, and so you can hand out your contact information to vendors who interest you.
If you attend a trade show as part of your company, always make sure you keep track of what you have ordered so that you do not go over budget. Nothing is worse than spending more than you are supposed to at the trade show. If you do purchase or order items, keep good track of it. Also, if you need customer artwork on products, you should bring copies of the artwork on paper or on the computer so that you can get everything ordered and in place at the trade show.
You only have a certain amount of time at trade shows, but that does not mean you shouldn’t take a breather. Make sure you take time to rest, have a snack and recharge your batteries.
On that same note, do not stay right to the end of a trade show because then you have to fight to get out of the parking lot, to get on the bus, or to get a cab. Therefore, leave the trade show a little early so that you can beat the rush and get back to your office, home, or hotel room.
Attending conferences and trade shows is all about being prepared, so know what you are doing at the trade show and you won’t have any trouble.
