Due to the economic downturn, all companies are opting for cost reduction measures. It has been estimated that of the over 1.2 trillion dollars per year spent on maintenance, more than 40% - 480 billion dollars - is WASTED! It is wasted due to poor management of resources, poor measurement and control of labor, material and capital.

For maintenance to make its proper contribution to profits, productivity, and quality, it must be recognized as an integral component of the overall plan by which the plant provides the product to the customer at the quality they want at the price they are willing to pay. To accomplish the maintenance mission in a world class organization requires more than maintenance just ‘doing its job’or ‘getting its act together’. It requires the cooperation of and the association with virtually all other departments within the plant – but especially production, procurement, engineering, accounting, and human resources.

We must fix the “process”- not just the “problems”!
