When you go to a trade show, you are there to see the new, old and the bold. However, sometimes it can be an overwhelming experience when you are not prepared for it. Attending conferences and tradeshows can be an enlightening experience when you are prepared. When you are not, it can be an experience you would like to forget.
First, you want to avoid any confusion at the door by registering for the trade show well ahead of time.
Once you have registered, you should have a list of the vendors who will be at the trade show. When you have that list, go through the list and find the vendors you want to visit, the products you want to buy and the new products or services that you are interested in.
It is very important that you remember the vendors are there to meet with you and get your business. Do not be prepared to set up meetings with vendors before you go to the trade show. This will allow you to meet with them at the trade show and talk with them immediately, without wasting time. If you are going as part of a company, bring the employees who are going to be the ones that would most benefit from the experience.
Knowing what to wear at the trade show is very important as well. You will be doing a lot of walking, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. If you are going as part of your business, wear business casual clothing because you may be a customer to the vendor, but you are still representing your business.
If you have to travel to the trade show, make sure you bring a suitcase that has enough room in it for everything you will get from the vendors at the trade show, including product samples, promotional items and brochures.
Lastly, make sure you bring something to carry everything in at the trade show. It may not be a big deal if you only have one brochure, but if you are walking around with pens, cups, brochures and more, it may get a bit daunting.
Attending conferences and tradeshows is a great way to further your knowledge of an industry and its businesses. However, if you come unprepared you may be overwhelmed, so ensure you can think about what you have to do before you go about attending conferences and tradeshows.
