Capers Jones designed the first automated software estimation tool for IBM in 1973. He is also the founder and former Chairman of Software Productivity Research, which builds leading-edge software estimation tools. He has designed three successful commercial software estimation tools and five proprietary tools for specific clients.

The talk will discuss a number of estimation and sizing tools such as COCOMO II, KnowlegePlan, SLIM, SEER, Function Point Analyzer, Early & Quick which is widely used in Italy, and many others. Several experimental methods will be discussed such as “micro function points” for small changes to applications and a new method of sizing by means of pattern matching.
