Royal navies in the world have good mix of sensor and weapon technology to protect the undersea territories. Militaries often equipped themselves with sophisticated sonar systems to detect, classify, locate and target friendly or enemy submarines. However, a successful anti submarine warfare (ASW) does not depend on smart systems alone; it is highly dependent on training and officers’ experience as well.

While many procedures and tactics still works well in ASW, the most effective way to avoid torpedoes is not to get within the range of submarine. This highlights the importance of practical application of acoustics in ASW, for officers to detect the presence and range of enemy’s sub.
