Over the past five years the genetic architecture of common diseases has been redefined by results from whole-genome association studies and new sequencing technologies. Together, these have offered new insights into the mechanisms of a wide range of health disorders.

Now, studies are moving to the sequencing of whole genomes, and the ability to do this both rapidly and inexpensively. The focus of common disease genetics is now on the discovery of new disease mechanisms, and how to evaluate and transfer these advances through to potential clinical application.

The Wellcome Trust in association with Nature Genetics is pleased to announce the fifth annual conference, which will address the following topics, across a range of common diseases:

* Cancer – somatic, germline and diagnostics
* Infectious diseases
* Population and statistical genetics
* Functional genomics
* Exome and whole genome sequencing
* Clinical translation and pharmacogenetics
* Emerging technologies and their applications
