Novosibirsk is the administrative centre of the Siberian region and the capital of Western Siberia. The region serves as a major transport hub and the biggest industrial, cultural and scientific centre in Eastern Russia.

The international airport Tolmachevo links Novosibirsk with many countries of the world. Regular flights connect Siberia with Europe (Frankfurt, Munich) and Asia (Dubai, Tel-Aviv, Seoul, Beijing, Urumqi). There are charter flights to Thailand, Hainan, Czech Republic, and up to 12 flights a day from Novosibirsk to Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

Over the last few years, with the help of the local authorities, the tourism industry in Siberia has developed considerably and become an attractive prospect for investors. The region boasts over 1,000 travel companies, with 260 based in Novosibirsk. Most offer outbound tourism services, 20% deal with inbound tourism and approximately 80% promote regional tourism.
