Construction industry in Kenya poised for growth

The construction industry in Kenya is expected to see tremendous growth as a result of increasedpopulation and government spending on major infrastructure projects around the country.

Kenya has a well-developed construction industry. Quality engineering, building and architectural design services are readily available. This industry is currently on an upward trend following rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads and bridges under the Funds and Kenya Urban Transport Infrastructure Program.

According to Industry analysts, the residential construction sector will grow as both the goverment and private developers try to keep up with the soaring demand for housing occasioned by the rise in population.

Extensive opportunities exist in the construction of middle and low income housing (including prefabricated housing) manufacture and supply of Building materials, renovation and rehabilitation of transport infrastructure.

The rates of non residential construction are expected to grow in the next decade since the demand for Commercial complexes and shopping malls will continue to escalate.During this period many industrial plants will need replacing while many commercial buildings will need to be rehabilitated .This will translate into more sectoral growth.
