Spinal instability due to malignancy is an almost invariable consequence of tumor-growth induced impairment of different spinal elements, especially osteolytic vertebral destruction. This disintegration of spinal biomechanics is finally caused by vertebral body collapse with subsequent deformity, pathological fracture with spinal canal involvement and epidural compression. These complications are converging on a vicious circle of severe and intractable pain with immobilization and other much feared and partly irrevesible consequences of spinal instability, e.g. malignant paraplegia.

After the great success of the 2nd Charité Spine Tumor Days 2011 we have the pleasure to announce the 3rd CHARITÉ SPINE TUMOR DAYS held at the 31st of May – 1st of June 2013 with the topic:

Spinal instability secondary to primary or metastatic cancer: From biomechanical backgrounds to advanced reconstructions.

The scope of this international two day symposium are current therapeutic approaches and multidisciplinary treatment algorithms for spinal instability due to primary and secondary malignancies of the cervical , thoracolumbar and sacral spine.
