The complexities and stresses of the modern workplace have created new opportunities for psychiatrists. As consultants or clinicians, psychiatrists address a wide variety of organizational, clinical, and medical-legal problems that arise at work.
The Academy of Organizational and Occupational Psychiatry (AOOP) was founded in 1990 to provide a forum for an exchange of ideas between psychiatry and the world of work. AOOP’s annual meeting is an opportunity to enhance the knowledge and skills of its members through various training opportunities and professional networking; to liaison with other professional groups concerned with workplace health and mental health; and to encourage and support the practice of organizational and occupational psychiatry. The AOOP Psychiatry Resident Scholarship was created to afford psychiatry residents the opportunity to attend the annual meeting while recognizing their educational station might ordinarily prevent them from attending.
