17th International Trade Fair of Wine & Delicacies held in Prague has approached. Despite the economic crisis, we can say that wine and snacks were affected by the crisic only marginally. People renounce a new car or TV, but still want to buy a quality wine and good delicacy. In addition, there is a trend towards buying quality food and drinks under the slogan “I want to be healthy and what I eat and drink fundamentally affects my health.” It is interesting to see how the fair attracts smaller wineries. Not just wine lovers have a great interest in “small wineries”, but especially professionals from the restaurants and hotels are looking for new and interesting wines from Moravia and abroad. Supply and demand meet in the fair as in no other marketing event. Both professionals from gastronomy and wine lovers have a huge opportunity here to fi nd exactly what they want. Wine consumption in the Czech Republic has been rising even though with the 20 liters per capita we are still by far behind countries like Italy or France. Our producers are unable to meet the consumption demand in our country and therefore the total wine market is created from more than 60% by imports. This is an impulse and challenge for foreign companies to try to enter into our market. The fair provides an ideal opportunity to find an importer and distributor of foreign wines. No exhibitors in our fair have been disappointed so far that for a quality wine at a reasonable price wouldn´t fi nd useful contacts and sales afterwards. Fair visitors appreciate the connection of wines and delicacies that the fair has been running for three years already. Manufacturers and importers of hams, sausages, olives, cheese, fi sh and other delicacies do not only complement the wines today, but have formed a separate area for meetings with those who are interested in gastronomy.
