 While the consumer acceptance for vehicles driving autonomously has been quite low in the past, this attitude has changed tremendously over the last few years. This trend is driven to a high degree by the development of the connected car which allows the driver to take care of other issues while travelling.
At the same time the automotive industry has been working intensively on autonomous driving technology for the last years with major success. Today, many systems that enable autonomous driving are very advanced. In addition, autonomous driving is already a reality in sectors that are initially not taken into consideration such as public transport and off highway applications.
