The digital age provides many opportunities within the entertainment media industry to improve efficiency, costs and viewer experiences. In the past, content creation and distribution were highly physical processes that required film and video tape at various points along the workflow. Production, post-production and distribution systems' reliance on physical media makes a workflow time intensive, expensive, and inflexible. The benefits of being part of a larger IT industry gives us access to devices, technologies and techniques that could never have been economically developed by the broadcast community alone.

Globally distributed and collaborative production and post-production processes are increasingly being implemented by content producers, distributors, broadcasters and Multichannel Video Programming Distributors (MVPDs). The interconnected content creation and distribution workflow has arrived and is changing not only the technologies, but also the business models and strategies of media companies. The impacts of IT migration will continue to radically change the way we manage, move and manipulate media.

This seminar covers the use of media on IT networks including both streaming and file-based workflows, covering many aspects of the media lifecycle including acquisition, production, broadcast, contribution and distribution. Please join SMPTE's expert instructors as they explain how to utilize internetworking technologies to produce, edit and distribute content efficiently.
