Sustainability is no longer a new concept; we know the built environment can help mitigate climate change effects with more efficient designs. But how can the changing climate affect the way we design our public and private buildings and spaces? How are the insurance/risks being evaluated by banks and other lending institutions?
In the aftermath of Hurrican Sandy, FEMA has redeveloped the floodplain designations which have had a large impact on Westchester County, NY and the coastal areas of Fairfield County, CT. As developers and designers, we need to adapt to these changes and find a way to work within the parameters of the new regulations.
