Description
Freiburg’s exhibition and conference centre, or ‘Messe’, opened in 2000. With the addition of the Rothaus Arena in 2006, this modern complex combines over 40 years of event knowledge and experience with personality, charm and state-of-the-art technology.
The Messe draws around 400,000 people each year to its circa 35 exhibitions, conferences and events.
Its programme is characterised by long-established, popular trade fairs. These include major consumer exhibitions in September with up to 120,000 visitors, Camping, Leisure and Tourism (CFT – Camping, Freizeit und Touristik), Automotive (Automobil), Model Making (Modelbau), two used car trade fairs, and Industry & Electronics (Industrie + Elektronik).
The Freiburg Messe’s flagship exhibition is InterBrush, the international trade fair and meeting-point for the brush, paintbrush, roller and mop industry. Established as the global platform for launching new technology and accessories, InterBrush takes place every four years in spring. Over 140 exhibitors and more than 7,000 trade visitors come from 90 countries worldwide.
In addition to the events organised in-house, the exhibition centre offers its facilities for use by third parties for rock and pop concerts, musicals, television productions or sporting events. To date, it has hosted several broadcasts of two of Germany’s most popular family entertainment series. It was the start/finish site for the 18/19 stage of the Tour de France in 2000, and was the location for a massive open-air concert in summer 2004, attended by a crowd of over 50,000.
In January 2005, the Freiburg Messe was merged with the city’s department of industry and tourism. By exploiting genuine synergies between the two organisations – including core competencies in marketing, promotion and event management – Freiburg is in a strong position to offer highly cost-effective exhibition and conference solutions.
