October 26 - 30, 2012    Ortenberg , Alemania
It is the flagship Ortenberger se:
the cold market.

Since the 13th Century, the largest festival of Upper Hesse is always celebrated the end of October. Over 400 Krammarkt stalls await visitors, a well stocked theme park, plus an informative showcase in the exhibition tent, a big car show in the outdoor area and an entertainment program in the marquee.

The special significance of the cold market for the whole of northern Hesse lies in the fact that from the perspective of people from earlier centuries, the timing was ideal for this: cereal, fruit and wine were harvested, the young cattle so far grown that it could be sold. The market could therefore be fed well in every respect. Conversely, now, all supplies for the long winter, and the material will be purchased for the home often performed works, as now most likely the money was there. In the higher villages the roads were to sail to frost and Schneeinbruch too burdensome. End of October, however, the weather was still a lingering outside.
